Wind Mitigation vs. Waterproof Mitigation: What’s the Difference?
Storm protection in Florida comes down to two different jobs, and most coastal homes need both. Wind mitigation protects your openings — windows, doors, garages and lanais — from hurricane-force winds and the flying debris that causes most storm damage. That’s the role of hurricane shutters, roll-downs and impact screens. Waterproof mitigation is about keeping water out. Storm surge and heavy rain can push rising water under doors and into garages long after the wind has passed. Flood barriers seal those low openings so water stays outside where it belongs. A shutter won’t stop a flood, and a flood barrier won’t stop wind-blown debris — which is why we install both. We’ll walk your property and tell you honestly which openings need wind protection, which need water protection, and which need both.
